Barrels & material options
A barrel is part of a matched plasticizing assembly. Its bore, liner, openings and end connections need to be reviewed together with the screw and machine drawing.

Separate the body from the working surface
Describe the barrel body and any liner or surface treatment separately. The initial project data mentions 38CrMoALA and a 42CrMo body with alloy lining; these are discussion inputs, not a complete specification for every part.
Describe where the part works
Map the feed opening, heating zones, venting features and head connection against the actual drawing. Identify the interface or wear location being reviewed rather than relying on a generic catalogue illustration.
Make inspection traceable
A measurement is useful when its location, unit, date and drawing revision are known. Agree on bore measurements, fit-related features and required records before comparing a replacement barrel with the existing part.
| Review point | Record for the project | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Geometry | Part drawing, revision, units and mating features | A component code does not define every interface. |
| Material & construction | Body grade, working surface or liner, treatment route | Body and working surface need separate descriptions. |
| Operating context | Polymer, formulation, filler and observed changes | A material comparison needs the application context. |
| Acceptance | Measurement positions, method and agreed criteria | The same basis is needed when comparing parts. |
